How to use

How to calculate stacked discounts, final price, and tax on sale items

  1. 1 Start with the original price so the calculator can measure every markdown against the full item cost.
  2. 2 Choose how many discounts you want to stack if the sale includes multiple percentage-off steps such as a coupon plus a clearance markdown.
  3. 3 Enter each discount percentage in order because stacked discounts apply one after another rather than adding together directly.
  4. 4 Add a tax rate if you want to see the real total you would pay at checkout after all discounts are applied.
  5. 5 Review the breakdown table to see how each discount changes the running price and total savings.

Discount math can be surprisingly misleading when several markdowns stack together. Two discounts such as 20% off plus 10% off do not equal a simple 30% reduction because the second discount applies to the already reduced price. This calculator shows that sequence clearly, which helps when you are checking store promotions, coupon combinations, or resale pricing before you buy.

Seeing the final price, the total amount saved, and the after-tax total in one place is especially useful for shopping comparisons. Instead of guessing which offer is better, you can plug in each scenario and compare the actual checkout cost. The step-by-step table also makes the tool useful for classrooms, finance practice, and anyone who wants to understand how stacked markdowns really work.
