PPI (Pixels Per Inch) measures screen pixel density — how many pixels fit in one inch of screen. Higher PPI means sharper text and images. The formula is PPI = √(width² + height²) / diagonal. A typical desktop monitor has 90-110 PPI, a Retina MacBook Pro has ~220 PPI, and smartphones can exceed 400 PPI.

Dot pitch is the distance between pixel centers, measured in millimeters. Lower dot pitch means higher density. Apple coined "Retina" for displays where individual pixels are indistinguishable at typical viewing distance (roughly 200+ PPI for laptops, 300+ for phones). The total megapixels tells you overall resolution — a 4K display has about 8.3 megapixels, while a Full HD display has about 2.1 megapixels.
