The Reading Time Calculator divides total words by your reading speed in words per minute (WPM). The average adult reads at 238 WPM for non-fiction and 260 WPM for fiction. Speaking time is calculated at 150 WPM, the typical pace for presentations and speeches.

The Flesch-Kincaid readability score (0-100) measures how easy text is to understand based on average sentence length and syllables per word. Scores above 70 are considered easy to read (suitable for a general audience), while scores below 30 indicate graduate-level difficulty. Most web content should aim for a score of 60-70.
